5 Ways to Pay Your SDG&E Bill

With over 1.4 million electric and natural gas customers across San Diego County, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is one of the largest regulated public utilities in California. As an energy expert and owner of CubEnergySaver, one of my main goals is to help SDG&E customers better understand their bill payments and the various convenient options available. In this article, I will explore multiple ways through which residential and commercial customers can easily pay their SDG&E bill.

Pay Online with My Account

Setting up an online account with SDG&E, called ‘My Account’, is one of the simplest and most convenient methods for paying your bill. Through your My Account, you get access to up to 25 months of account activity and payment history. You can make one-time or automatic recurring payments directly from your bank account with no additional fees. Automatic payments ensure your bill is paid on time each month without having to remember the due date.

Some key benefits of paying through My Account include:

  • Paperless billing for an eco-friendly option
  • 24/7 online access from any device
  • Ability to link and pay multiple accounts together
  • Insights into your energy usage and costs
  • Option to enroll in bill assistance programs

Setting up My Account takes only a few minutes. Visit www.sdge.com, click ‘Login or Sign Up’ and follow the simple steps. Once registered, you can securely login anytime to manage your payments.

Pay By Phone or On-The-Go

For those wanting a quick payment option on the go, SDG&E partners with BillMatrix to allow phone or online payments using debit/credit cards with a small $1.50 convenience fee per transaction.

To pay by phone, call BillMatrix’s dedicated SDG&E line at 1-800-386-0067 and follow the prompts. You can pay up to $1,000 with your card in a single transaction.

Online payments through billmatrix are equally simple. Input your SDG&E account number and payment details. Both options are convenient for making one-time or occasional bill payments without creating an online profile.

Pay Using Text Message

Through SDG&E’s Text to Pay feature, residential customers have the flexibility to pay their monthly bill via text message. It only requires a one-time enrollment process, after which you can securely pay with ease each month.

Here is a quick overview of how Text to Pay works:

  • Enroll through your My Account or the SDG&E mobile app
  • Provide your mobile number and link a bank account
  • Each month, SDG&E will text you the due amount
  • Simply reply ‘Pay’ to send payment from your account
  • A text confirmation is sent once payment is processed

Pay in Person

For those preferring to pay their SDG&E bill with cash, check, debit card or credit card in person, multiple authorized payment locations are conveniently located across San Diego County. This includes SDG&E branch offices open Monday-Friday as well as partner stores like Walmart, Vons and CVS that accept payments.

An online map on SDG&E’s website helps locate the nearest authorized payment center, many open early and on weekends for added flexibility. Keep in mind that third parties may charge a separate fee for in-person payments.

Other Payment Options

Beyond the main choices above, SDG&E residential and commercial customers have additional options tailored to individual needs:

  • Sign up for Average Payment Plan to spread costs evenly all year
  • Make a payment arrangement if temporarily unable to pay
  • Send checks by mail using the address on your bill
  • Pay at an authorized drop box location if account is past due

As an energy advisor focused on delivering value, I hope this overview of SDG&E’s varied payment methods has helped explain convenient choices available. Do reach out if you need assistance setting up online payments or have any other bill-related questions. My goal is to empower customers through education.
