El Paso Electric Smart Meters: All You Need To Know

El Paso Electric is dedicated to providing the best customer experience possible, and as part of that commitment, they are replacing their current meters with state-of-the-art smart meter technology. Smart meters track energy use in real time and send the data directly to EPE through a secure communication network. This technology is not available with your current meter.

Benefits of Smart Meters

  • Access to energy consumption data in near real time
  • Better control of energy costs
  • Faster outage notification and restoration
  • Enhanced customer service
  • More customer programs

Smart Meter Installation

Installations are underway and will continue through 2025. You can search for your installation schedule by ZIP code or use the interactive map on the El Paso Electric website.

I Have My New Meter. What’s Next?

Now that you have your new smart meter, please make sure you create an online account with El Paso Electric if you have not already done so. Visit Manage My Account at epelectric.com to get started. You can also manage your account by downloading the El Paso Electric app in the Apple Store or Google Play. Once you have online access, you can track daily energy use and sign up for energy-saving tips and bill alerts.

Smart Meter Surcharge

EPE customers will be charged a monthly fee to cover the cost of the smart meter installation. To help offset this surcharge, customers can use the smart meter technology to manage their energy use and control costs.

Opting Out of a Smart Meter

Customers have the option to opt out of getting a smart meter. However, they must pay a one-time fee and a recurring monthly fee to maintain their current meter. EPE encourages customers to research the benefits of smart meters before making a final decision. To opt out, contact Customer Care at [email protected] or call 915-543-5970. EPE chat is also available.
